International Russian–Japanese Conference

For the first time in the history of the Russian economic forums, the business programme of EEF 2018 features an event of a historical and cultural significance.

The International Conference, organized by the Russian Historical Association and the History of Motherland Fund with the support of the Russian Foreign Ministry, is devoted to the history of the Russian—Japanese relations.

Mikhail Piotrovsky, Director of the State Hermitage and Academy Fellow of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Nikita Anisimov, the President of FEFU co-chaired the event. In a welcoming speech to the delegates of the conference, they noted the importance of understanding the historical context of relations between Russia and Japan. According to the speakers, to make the right decisions, the business needs historical examples of how to build good-neighbourly ties, take into account the experience and particularities of the mentality of foreign partners.

Igor Pavlov, Deputy Director of the Roscongress Foundation, Director of EEF, drew the attention of the participants to the fact that the historic conference became a genuinely scientific platform of the EEF, adding a new format and depth to the forum. He noted the importance of knowing the lessons of the past in making new economic decisions and suggested holding the conference annually.

Historians, political scientists, leading experts of Russian—Japanese relations from the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian Historical Association, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, diplomats, FEFU researchers and professors participated in the conference that took place on the starting day of EEF. They discussed the historical issues along with cultural and humanitarian aspects of cooperation between Russia and Japan.
