Centuries-Long History Of Northern Folk Craft Will Spring Alive Right In The Heart Of St. Petersburg

29 May 2021
В самом сердце Санкт-Петербурга оживет многовековая история народных промыслов Северного края

The Masters’ Line Gallery will share the unique world of folk craft with locals and guests of the Russian cultural capital. The Masters’ Line Gallery welcomes its first visitors right in the heart of St. Petersburg. This is the first gallery of folk crafts that preserves the priceless traditions of crafting articles in world-wide known painting styles by masters.

The official opening will take place as part of the SPIEF ‘St. Petersburg Seasons’ Cultural Festival on 3 June at 16:00.

A variety of unique articles will be presented to the guests of the capital at the first gallery of folk craft, which will become St. Petersburg’s remarkable cultural space. The Regions of Russia Media Holding is the general media partner of the event.

“Our goal was to make a fitting presentation of both the classical folk art craft articles and those painted in the craft tradition with modern interpretation, to combine several folk crafts, and to provide an opportunity to feel the Russian heart of the authors, to showcase their modernity,” says the gallery founder Sergey Lebedev.

“Not only can a customer purchase an authentic authorized folk craft product at our gallery, but they can also have a consultation by a specialist on anything that concerns the history of folk craft, stylistic character of the products, types of painting, as well as place a personal order, or take part in workshops.”

“The Leningrad Region is a unique area of Russia with the richest heritage, natural beauty, and unique handicraft industries. We are happy to discover the Volkhov District both for ourselves and for Russian tourists. It is an incredibly interesting location that is still undervalued from the tourist point of view. Folk craft is one of the drivers of tourism development in Russian regions. The masters at Volkhov Painting LLC recreate articles and traditional patterns of nearly-forgotten wood painting that has been known since the 19th century along the Volkhov River. The roly-poly of Volkhov Painting is a true symbol of growth. We will work on cooperating with this and other companies, promote interesting projects, and tell about the renaissance of Russian traditions. This will be a contribution to growing tourism inside the country,” noted the Head of Creative Projects at the Roscongress Foundation, Honoured Culture Worker of the Russian Federation, producer Ekaterina Ivanova.

For reference: Gallery opening will take place at 21, Malaya Morskaya Ulitsa, St. Petersburg, on 3 June.
