The hospice is located in a historic building in Pushkin. The
institution will be testing new methods of care, which have been specially
developed to accompany young people. The opening ceremony was attended by
Alexander Beglov, Governor of St. Petersburg; Oleg Ergashev, Vice-Governor of
St. Petersburg; Alexander Belsky, Speaker of the St. Petersburg Parliament;
deputies Pavel Krupnik and Alexander Rzhanenkov, representatives of the city
executive authorities; Alexander Tkachenko, founder of St. Petersburg
Children’s Hospice; and Pavel Tkachenko, Executive Director of the Paper Bird
Charitable Foundation for Children and Adults Hospice. The event was also
attended by representatives of the management of the Roscongress Foundation.
The Governor of St. Petersburg underlined that the Northern Capital has
always been committed to the traditions of helping people in difficult life
situations. Alexander Beglov reminded that the first hospice in the country was
opened here in 1990 and the first children’s hospice was opened in 2010. “Until
the age of 18, you can stay in the children's hospice, and then you go to an
adult one. But the kids are not ready to move on to adulthood yet. They need
special help,” Alexander Beglov added.
The benefactors reconstructed an old building for the hospice, purchased
high-tech equipment, landscaped the area, and organized recreational and
walking areas. The hospice is designed to accommodate 15 families at a time.
New care algorithms developed by doctors, psychologists, and social workers
will be tested there.
Organizationally, the children’s hospice and the hospice for young
adults have been merged into the St. Petersburg State Autonomous Health
Institution ‘Hospice (Child and Adult)’. The author of the idea and head of the
open hospice is Archpriest Alexander Tkachenko, Chairman of the Board of the
Circle of Kindness Foundation, Chairman of the Russian Public Chamber’s
Commission on Charity and Social Work. “In addition to professional medical
care, the centre that opened today, will also provide psychological support to
the residents, the opportunity to participate in educational and cultural
activities – all the things that will allow them to stop feeling cut off from
society and normal life. It is nice to feel and see with our own eyes that such
a good cause is developing, and more and more families can start living a
better life with professional care in this institution. Of course, we hope for
help and support from everyone who cares about the children here and the life
of this project,” said Alexander Stuglev, Chairman of the board and director of
the Roscongress Foundation.
The hospice is located at 7, Moskovskoye Shosse, Pushkin, St.
Petersburg.
