Moscow has hosted the first meeting of the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum organizing committee. The event was chaired by Konstantin Chuychenko, Chairman of the organizing committee and Minister of Justice of the Russian Federation.
The meeting focused on four key areas in relation to the Forum: organizational aspects, the business programme, the event venue, and participation terms and conditions. A number of working groups operating under the organizing committee were also established.
“Over the years, the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum has grown to become the main event for discussing the current legal agenda. The event is set to take place on 29 June to 1 July 2022, and will focus on the key implications that the current global changes have for the legal field,” said Chuychenko.
“In today’s world, the legal agenda is coming to the fore. The legal basis supporting coexistence throughout the world has become an essential topic of discussion. Today, we are setting vital objectives aimed at getting participants from other countries involved in our legal agenda and discussions. I firmly believe that the Forum, together with its agenda and programme, will facilitate substantive dialogue in the interests of international law,” said Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation Anton Kobyakov.
Citywide preparations for the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum also came under discussion during the meeting. “A plan to prepare for this landmark event is currently in the works, which will incorporate transport provision, hotel infrastructure, and a cultural programme. Sanitary and epidemiological measures will come under particular focus, as will the health and safety of participants and guests,” said Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov. He went on to note that since the Legal Forum will take place after the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, several aspects will have already been addressed. This will be particularly true of transport infrastructure and provision, improving the urban environment, and utilities infrastructure. In December 2021, the entire length of the Yuzhno-Volkhonskaya Road was opened to traffic, thereby further improving access to the ExpoForum Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The 10th St. Petersburg International Legal Forum will take place from 29 June to 1 July 2022. This will be the first edition of the event to be held offline in two years, and will bring together leading international law specialists, corporate lawyers, legal experts, public figures, thought leaders, representatives of government bodies, attorneys, notaries, and journalists.
