The Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsyn announced that the creation of new sports centres in the Far East would be discussed during the Eastern Economic Forum 2021. During his visit to the Far Eastern Federal District, he also spoke about the need for upgrading the infrastructure.

“The Far East is among the strategic regions in terms of sports development. A large number of competitions take place in Asia Pacific – in Korea, China, Japan, and other counties. We need to get ready for them,” said Oleg Matytsyn.

Today, 20 Russian teams are in the Far East preparing for the Summer Olympics. The Minister of Sport inspected the conditions created for Russian teams that compete in Greco-Roman and women’s wrestling, judo, boxing, swimming, target archery, 3х3 basketball, triathlon, and badminton. He also met with the Governor of Primorye Territory Oleg Kozhemyako and discussed the creation of a sports cluster on campus of the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) on Russky Island.

Starting from 5 July, FEFU is home to the headquarters of the sports training centre for Russian national teams. The Roscongress Foundation provides administrative support to the headquarters.

Besides, Oleg Matytsyn visited Khabarovsk, where he met with Olympic teams competing in fencing, trampolining, and mountain biking. In Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, he inspected training facilities for tennis and karate teams.

The 6th Eastern Economic Forum will take place in Vladivostok on 2–4 September.
