Roscongress Sport Club and VTB United League Open Basketball Season

Roscongress Sport Club и Единая лига ВТБ открыли сезон баскетбольных матчей

Roscongress Sport Club and VTB United League held a basketball gala match in Moscow featuring members of the business elite and famous actors and athletes. The event was held as part of the VTB United League All-Star Game.

Olympic Basketball Champion Sergei Tarakanov was captain of the Blue Team, which also included: VTB United League President Sergey Kushchenko, VTB Capital Investment Manager CEO Vladimir Potapov, actor Stanislav Yarushin, Federal Passenger Company General Director Petr Ivanov, SIBUR basketball programme ambassador and European basketball champion Sergey Bykov, and two-time world championship medalist Sergey Panov.

The chief trainer of the Red Team was VTB United League General Director Ilona Korstin. The team boasted members such as Metalloinvest Board Member Valery Kazikaev, Gemcorp Russia CEO Albert Sagiryan, actor Kuzma Saprykin, who played the famous football player Vasili Berezutski in the film Three Seconds (Dvizhenie vverkh), Moscow Operetta Theatre Soloist Ivan Vikulov, and European basketball champion Aleksey Savrasenko.

The Red Team won 23–21 with Stanislav Yarushin being awarded the title of Game MVP. “The real winner of this gala match is basketball. We have worked with the Roscongress Foundation to organize matches as part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum for several years now. Now, we have opened this basketball programme in Moscow. Regularly bringing together successful people from various industries on the basketball court is a great opportunity to promote our sport,” noted Ilona Korstin.

During the main event of the VTB United League All-Star Game, the World Stars beat the Russian Stars 164–162 in overtime. Khimki’s Alexey Shved was named Moscow All-Star Game MVP, having scored 42 points. American CSKA Moscow Guard Mike James scored the most points for the World Stars team with 34 points. Avtodor Saratov player Aleksandr Petenev won the Slam Dunk Contest, while Lokomotiv-Kuban’s guard Vitaly Fridzon won the 3-Point Shootout Contest.
