On 15 August 2019, an interdepartmental meeting was held
in St. Petersburg chaired by Anton Kobyakov, Russian Presidential Advisor, Vice-Chairman
and Executive Secretary of the Organizing Committee for preparing and providing
for the presidency of the Russian Federation in the Shanghai Cooperation
Organisation in 20192020 and in the BRICS association in 2020. The meeting discussed
organizational aspects of preparing the Northern Capital for hosting the Summits,
in particular accommodation of event participants, catering, security, etc.
«St Petersburg has tremendous experience of holding the
biggest events in our country. Every year, the Northern Capital hosts global international
events: this year alone, there have already been the St. Petersburg International
Economic Forum and the International Arctic Forum, and, in the autumn, the city
will welcome the biggest event of the world tourism industry the UNWTO
General Assembly. I am sure that consolidation of the efforts of all departments
will allow us to prepare the entire necessary infrastructure, in the shortest
time, for successfully holding the SCO and BRICS Summits», Anton Kobyakov noted.
The Russian Presidential Advisor also announced that no additional structures
would be built in connection with the Summits.
The meetings culminated in additional instructions being issued by sector
and the deadlines for fulfilling them set.
Previously, the working group had visited a number of
proposed Summit venues.
