Alexey Texler: SCO and BRICS Summits to Be Held at Highest Level

Алексей Текслер: саммиты ШОС и БРИКС пройдут на самом высоком уровне
Advisor to the Russian President and Executive Secretary of the Organizing Committee for the SCO and BRICS Summits Anton Kobyakov held a meeting in Moscow with acting Chelyabinsk Region Governor Alexey Texler during which they discussed deadlines for the preparation of infrastructure for major events as part of Russia’s chairmanship of the SCO and BRICS summits in 2020.

«Efficient planning of work in the run-up to the SCO and BRICS summits and meeting deadlines are the most important components of preparing Chelyabinsk for events next year. Holding regular meetings in such a format makes it possible to coordinate interaction between all services, departments, and responsible individuals. I am certain that the infrastructure that is being built will not only provide an impetus to the development of Chelyabinsk but the entire Chelyabinsk metropolitan area», Kobyakov said.

The officials paid particular attention to the issue of accommodating foreign delegations. A total of three cluster home communities are to be built for the SCO and BRICS summits. «The facilities for the summit are being built in accordance with the work plan. People at all levels of government in the region understand the importance and significance of preparing the city. Consolidating the efforts of builders, engineers, and workers in this way will not only enable us to build the congress infrastructure on time, but also create a legacy of summits that the citizens will then be proud of. I am confident that the SCO and BRICS summits will be held at the highest level», Texler said.

Special attention is being paid to the road and transport system as part of the preparation of infrastructure. More than 300 new bus stop shelters will be built by the time the SCO and BRICS summits take place in Chelyabinsk in 2020, including 150 smart bus stops equipped with video surveillance and a special screen that will let passengers know exactly when public transport will arrive.

Chelyabinsk Region authorities previously said that a roadmap of preparations for the summits includes work to build a new modern airport, modernize public transport and renovate the road network, build the Taganay Convention and Exhibition Center, and also build a dormitory at the largest regional university. A total of 19 sites are being prepared for the summits.
