Moreover, REO will organize separate waste collection at the SPIEF. In addition to the standard containers for mixed waste and recyclables, «fandomats» (the reverse vending machines) will be installed at the site to accept plastic bottles in order to select the maximum amount of recyclables and send them for further sorting and recycling.

Let me remind you that most of the municipal solid waste (MSW) generated annually in Russia, which is more than 60 million tons, is recyclable material resources. The task is to recycle as much of it as possible. This has always been relevant, that is why the reform of MSW management industry will continue in spite of everything. We are facing the task to create a sustainable waste management system and ensure the country’s transition to a circular economy. The national goals are to reach the indicators of sorting 100% of waste and reduce by half the amount of waste that ends up on landfills. In order to achieve these goals, everyone including the businesses, government authorities, eco-community, and citizens must unite. The participation of REO in the SPIEF will allow us all to listen to each other. Participants will discuss the main directions of the creation of a circular economy in Russia and will be able to apply in practice its main principles. Public-law company Russian Environmental Operator (REO) was established by the decree of the President of the Russian Federation on January 14, 2019. The main purpose of REO is to establish a comprehensive system of municipal solid waste (MSW) management in Russia. According to the national project «Ecology», it is necessary to reduce the volume of MSW disposal and thereby reduce the environmental burden on the population. The target by 2030 is to sort 100% of MSW and reduce by 50% the amount of MSW sent to landfills. It is impossible to achieve such indicators without the creation of a circular economy. Therefore, REO has two main goals. Firstly, the creation of a system for waste recycling to ensure its engagement as raw materials for the manufacturing of new products and the production of energy.
