A
roundtable was held at the V Russian-British Business Forum on the development
and introduction of smart urban technologies and green building. The roundtable
was organized by the Trade Representation of Russia in the UK and the Russian
Green Building Council (RuGBC). The Forum was held under the auspices of the Russian
Ministry of Industry and Trade in cooperation with the Trade Representation of
Russia in the UK and the Roscongress Foundation.
The programme of the Russian-British Business Forum
traditionally takes into account the most popular areas for discussion by
Russian and British business. In 2019, the main theme was ‘digital’ and high
technology in various sectors, including urban studies.
During the roundtable, Dmitry Berezutsky, Chairman of
the Board of «GreenStroy» Association, announced the construction of Russia’s first
innovative hub for the integration of green technologies. The hub will be
located at the Skolkovo Innovation Centre. This project will present
integration solutions from both large, medium, and small businesses. The hub
will include two platforms that aim to develop educational marketing in green
building and improving Russia’s regulatory framework in this regard.
Shamir Ghumra, the director of BREEAM, BRE Global,
spoke about specific methods and practices in environmentally sustainable
design, construction, and operation. BREEAM technology is currently one of the
most popular technologies in the world for measuring the environmental
performance of buildings. He also noted the importance of the widespread
introduction of BIM-technologies, which help take construction, equipment,
operation, and repair to a new level thanks to the algorithms of working with
all architectural, design, technological, economic, and other information in
the design process. Integrating these technologies onto the Russian market is
one of the objectives that the business has set.
Joanna Bacon, vice president of the Royal Institute of
British Architects (RIBA), spoke about modern architecture trends and noted the
need to adapt aesthetics to geographic conditions and cultural traditions.
Ivan Romanov, deputy CEO of LSR Group PHSC, spoke
about Russian approaches to implementing progressive projects and, as an
example, cited the landmark ZILART project, one of the largest in Europe over
the past 40 years.
The discussion participants paid particular attention
to climate change, ways to improve quality of life as well as waste management
and recycling issues in light of the reform of garbage collection laws.
