19 October 2019
Экономический форум Россия – Африка: курс на безопасность

The panel session ‘A Safe Africa’ will take place on the sidelines of the Russia—Africa Economic Forum on 24 October. The event will be held as part of the thematic pillar ‘Collaborating in the Humanitarian and Social Sector’ and will be devoted to security issues faced by African countries and their people.

The key discussion themes will be measures needed to maintain state security and ways to timely prevent possible threats, protect the state border and major facilities of state importance, promptly identify offenders, optimize the work of urban infrastructure, and other issues.

An effective set of measures has been developed in Russia to counter terrorism, curtail illegal activity, and provide dependable protection for citizens. Russian organizations and companies will share their experience with their African partners during the session.

The event will feature speeches by Pavel Kalyakin, Executive Director of LANIT Integration; Anton Kondrashev, Head of the Foreign Economic Relations Department at Scantronic Systems; Andrey Kryukov, Deputy Head of the Analytics and Forward Planning Department at Rosoboronexport; Samba Mony, Vice Governor of Tanganyika Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo; Igor Polyansky, Head of the Development Group at Stilsoft Group; and Shaban Hadia, Deputy Secretary of the Government of National Unity of the State of Libya.

The session will be moderated by Alexey Ivanov, Head of External Economic Activity and Military-Technical Cooperation at Russian Technologies State Corporation

«Security problems issues are relevant to any region of the world, and they are especially important to Africa. Terrorist attacks involving loss of life, hostage-taking, and crime are a challenge to the sustainable development of African countries. As part of the ‘A Safe Africa’ session, we plan to discuss the most significant threats and come up with proposals for building a regional security architecture using new technological solutions. Ensuring security in cities, closing borders to criminals, and creating a buffer against the illegal movement of explosives, weapons, drugs, and smuggling are all part of the set of measures that could reduce the level of terrorist danger on the continent», Alexey Ivanov said.

The Russia—Africa Summit and Economic Forum will take place on 23–24 October in Sochi at the Sirius Park of Science and Art. The events are being organized by the Roscongress Foundation, and the co-organizers of the Russia—Africa Economic Forum are Russian Export Center and Afreximbank.
