The first Russian falcon centre is to be opened in the Kamchatka Region.
The centre will become a pilot project as part of the programme for restoring
rare bird populations in our country’s regions. The project is accompanied by
the investment department of the Roscongress Foundation.
The Kamchatka centre will use best international practices for rare bird
breeds reproduction, including methods of the Russian-Kyrgyz Muras Hunting
Birds Rehabilitation and Reproduction Centre. In early August a group of
experts from St. Petersburg Association of Scientists and Scholars visited it
with the aim of studying falcon breeding practices.
«Unique methods used in the Muras
centre can form the foundation for a comprehensive programme of restoring the
population of birds of the falcon family in our country that over decades was
damaged due to illegal export of these birds,» noted Lev Borkin, Honourary
Chairman of St. Petersburg Association of Scientists and Scholars.
Earlier Minister of Natural
Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation Dmitry Kobylkin came to
Muras with a working visit. The managers of the Centre showed the Head of the Ministry of Natural
Resources of Russia advanced technologies for the reproduction and restoration
of the population of birds of the falcon family.
Construction of falcon centres in Russia might be supported by UAE.
Currently it is expected that relevant Russian-UAE bilateral agreements will be
signed. Also, the topic of international cooperation for maintaining and
restoring populations of birds of the falcon family will be touched upon at
scientific discussions as part of key events organized by the Roscongress
Foundation, including the Eastern Economic Forum, which will be held on 4–6
September 2019.
Restoration of population of wild birds and animals in their natural
habitat will significantly contribute to nature conservation and greater
tourist attractiveness of the regions, as well as growth of investment in the
national economy.
