St. Petersburg is set to host the ‘Arctic: Territory of Dialogue’ 5th International Arctic Forum on 9–10 April, with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin speaking at the plenary session on 9 April.

The main theme of this year’s Forum is ‘The Arctic. An Ocean of Opportunity’. The event will provide an opportunity to share perspectives on a range of issues affecting the comprehensive development of the Arctic. These will include the rational use of natural resources, environmental safety, transport, protecting the interests of indigenous populations, and other aspects related to sustainable growth in the region.

The plenary session will be moderated by John Fraher, Senior Executive Editor for Energy, Global Business and Finance at Bloomberg.

A number of meetings are planned between Vladimir Putin and visiting heads of state, including President of Iceland Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson, President of Finland Sauli Niinistö, Prime Minister of Norway Erna Solberg, and Prime Minister of Sweden Stefan Löfven. Discussions are expected to focus on current and future bilateral relations, current topics on the international agenda, and regional issues, with particular emphasis on collaboration in the Arctic.
