Russian and Japanese Olympic Committees to Sign Memorandum of Cooperation at EEF 2019

On 12 December Moscow hosted the annual Olympic session. Stanislav Pozdnyakov, chairman of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) delivered a report, where he emphasized that the largest economic forums provide new possibilities to expand international cooperation and promote Olympic values.

“ROC together with the Roscongress Foundation plans to host a panel session on Olympic heritage at the Eastern Economic Forum in 2019. It will feature members of the International Olympic Committee, heads of national committees from Asian countries, organizing committees from Tokyo and Beijing, different ministries of sports. We’re planning to sign a memorandum between ROC and NOC of Japan, which is of great importance on the threshold of Tokyo 2020 games. The preliminary agreement on the subject was reached in Buenos Aires during the Youth Olympic Games”, said Mr. Pozdnyakov.   

It’s worth mentioning that Mr. Pozdnyakov and Gou Zhongwen, President of NOC of China signed a memorandum at EEF 2018. The ceremony has been attended by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China. During a panel discussion titled “World Sport Today: A View from the Asia-Pacific Region in the Run-Up to Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022” the importance of this agreement among other opportunities for global sport to unite have been emphasized by James Macleod, Associate Director of Relations with the Olympic Movement, International Olympic Committee. The session also featured Igor Levitin, Aide to the President of the Russian Federation; Deputy Chairman, Presidential Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sport, Pavel Kolobkov, Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation, Marius Vizer, President, International Judo Federation (IJF), Yu Chang, Director of Media and Communications, Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, Aleksandr Karelin, Three-Time Olympic Champion in Greco-Roman Wrestling, and Dagvadorj Dolgorsuren , legendary sumo wrestler from Mongolia.
