A regional volunteer centre will open in
Chelyabinsk in autumn 2019 and serve as the main platform for the work and
training of the volunteer corps for international events in 2020.
The South
Urals Association of Volunteers initiated the establishment of the regional
centre and the idea received support from Chelyabinsk Region Governor Boris
Dubrovsky. A presidential grant worth RUB 1.7 million was also received for the
project.
The site is expected to become a
co-working space with a modern conference hall, work areas, a media centre as
well as a place for volunteers at international events to interact, train, and
relax. A loft will also be available for youth projects.
The volunteer
centre will be located at 73, Ulitsa Engelsa. The space is currently being
planned and organized, and in autumn of 2019 the centre will be equipped,
training methods will be developed, and working personnel will be invited to
provide information and methodological support to volunteers as well as advise
them and help them prepare for events.
Similar centres will also be set up
at major educational organizations and in other cities of the region. Such premises will
be used by South Ural State University students. The initiative to create this
centre received funding as part of a grant competition from the Federal Agency
for Youth Affairs. The centre is equipped with a lecture area for 100 people as
well as a platform with workspaces equipped with the necessary equipment.
The SCO and BRICS summits will be held in July 2020 in Chelyabinsk.
Approximately 750 volunteers will start being recruited in February 2019 in
order to help the event organizers.
