Leaders of the Russian Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East will take part in business and cultural events at the 7th Eastern Economic Forum, which will be held from 5 to 8 September in Vladivostok. The Forum is organized by the Roscongress Foundation.

Planned events include round tables on the development of traditional economy of indigenous peoples, interaction with industrial companies within the ESG standards paradigm, as well as perspectives in the field of creative industries. Discussions will culminate in a panel session entitled ‘Life of Indigenous Peoples: Preserving Traditions, Developing the Economy and Improving the Quality of Life’.

For the first time, Far East Street will feature the House of Indigenous Peoples. It is dedicated to the culture of the traditional Northern dwellers. Numerous events will be held there including the discussion platform entitled ‘Creative Industries Forum. Socio-Cultural Development of Northern Regions’. Forum events include the following sessions: Taming the Cold: Technologies for Living in the North; Snow House: Features of the Northern Urban Environment; Russian Arctic Style; People: Creative Potential of the North; Arctic, Siberia and Far East Gastronomy; and many others. Leaders of the Association of Indigenous Peoples of the Russian Federation and Far East will take part in these events, as well as in the round tables on development of traditional economy of indigenous peoples. The cultural programme will present the photographs taken by winners of the Northern Gaze contest and a photo exhibition entitled Children of the Arctic. Visitors will be able to take part in master classes on bone, horn, and walrus tusk carving; making national toys; creating artworks from fish skin and deer fur; and learn national dances of Northern Peoples. In addition, visitors to the pavilion will be able to taste the unique gastronomy of the North in the ICE BAR.

«The fact that the leaders of 40 indigenous peoples participate in the Eastern Economic Forum shows the interest of the state, business, and the public in helping the indigenous peoples of the Russian Federation. Today the Association tackles the main issues indigenous peoples face, namely the preservation of traditions in the modern world, development of the traditional economy, and improvement of the quality of life. Together with the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East, the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs, and the Roscongress Foundation we will be discussing all these issues on the sidelines of the Forum, where we are holding a joint panel session. I am convinced that during this session we will be able to find new approaches, ways and prospects for development of human life in the Arctic, as well as improving the life of the indigenous peoples in the North, Siberia and the Far East,» said Grigory Ledkov, President of the Russian Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East.

Organizational support for the Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia, and the Far East of the Russian Federation is provided by the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East, the Federal Agency for Nationalities, the Roscongress Foundation, and the Information and Analysis Centre of the State Commission for Arctic Development.
