REO will hold an essay competition for teenagers as part of SPIEF.Junior

26 May 2022
РЭО проведет конкурс сочинений для подростков в рамках «ПМЭФ.Юниор»

The Russian Environmental Operator will be hosting the REO Green School Essay Competition as part of SPIEF.Junior from 26 May to 6 June. The project is being carried out by the Content Foundation as part of the Point Junior discussion and communication platform with the support of the Roscongress Foundation and the Innopraktika non-governmental development institute.

“REO has organized an open essay competition for SPIEF Junior participants. They will be asked to focus their work on a topic related to the ecological development of Russia: care for natural processes and management, the world of ecological volunteering, and conscious consumption and eco-friendly habits. The shortlist will consist of two categories, ‘A Problem in Need of a Solution’, and ‘Let’s Do It’. An award ceremony for the winners will be held at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum,” General Director of the Russian Environmental Operator Public Law Company Denis Butsaev said.

The competition is being held as part of the SPIEF.Junior Forum to foster an environmental culture and conscious consumption, waste management skills among schoolchildren, environmental awareness, a responsible attitude toward the environment, environmentally conscientious behaviour among schoolchildren, and in an attempt to involve schoolchildren in efforts to resolve environmental problems.

“SPIEF.Junior seeks to provide talented teenagers with a unique opportunity to take part in a major international business event. One of the key tracks of the event’s business programme is ecology and sustainable development, and competitive initiatives of this kind conducted by REO will help to more effectively promote a responsible attitude towards the environment among the younger generation,” CEO and Chairman of the Management Board of the Roscongress Foundation Alexander Stuglev said.

The goal is for participants to use the genre of their choice to encourage their peers in an engaging manner to participate in socially significant events that happen to fall within the environmental agenda of Russia and their home region; to promote a more ecological way of life among students; to make suggestions aimed at environmental protection or how to resolve environmental problems; to share personal experience of participation in environmental actions to promote separate collection of waste, to tell about personal habits that are useful or beneficial for preserving the environment in relation to the proper handling of waste.

Participants choose their own theme, genre, and title. Compositions for the contest may be submitted in prose in the form of a story, parable, letter, fairy tale, diary, essay, report, interview, tour, review, or travelogue. The working language for the competition is Russian. Compositions in poetic form will not be considered.

The competition will be held remotely and in a single stage: from 26 May to 6 June 2022 (24:00 Moscow time) in the age categories 14–16 and 17–18. Contest winners will receive Diplomas and commemorative prizes.

Applications and essays should be sent to [email protected].
