Курс на сотрудничество: Россия и Египет обсудили подготовку к ПМЭФ-2022

Adviser to the Russian President Anton Kobyakov met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Egypt to Russia Nazih El-Nagari.

During the meeting, the two officials addressed issues in their bilateral relations, including ways to further strengthen cooperation in trade and the economic, cultural, scientific, educational, social, and tourism sectors.

Egypt has been and remains one of Russia’s leading trade and economic partners in the Middle East and Africa for many years. Roughly 100 industrial facilities were built in Egypt with the Soviet Union’s assistance, many of which still play an important role in the Egyptian economy, primarily the Aswan Dam, the Helwan Steel Plant, and the Nag Hammadi Aluminium Plant. The scale of business interaction has declined in the post-Soviet era, but has been steadily growing again in recent years.

«Russia and Egypt are connected by many years of relations based on trust, and we intend to concertedly increase the pace of economic cooperation. Promising projects in which the two countries have mutual interest include the modernization of major facilities, in particular the implementation of the Ain Sokhna Industrial Zone, which promotes the expansion of business opportunities for Russian companies in the Middle East and Africa,» Kobyakov said.

Russian-Egyptian cooperation has intensified significantly in recent years thanks to an active political dialogue and joint projects. The two sides also discussed preparations for the 25th anniversary St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in 2022, where Egypt will serve as a guest country and prepare its own country exposition.

«For our part, we will make every effort to help the Egyptian side prepare for its participation at the highest level. The experience of the Russia—Africa Summit that we held jointly in 2019 helps us take into account all the necessary organizational issues and speak at the SPIEF about the results we have achieved over the past three years,» Kobyakovsaid.

The 25th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum will take place on 1518 June 2022.

Registration is open to media representatives until 13 May 2022.
