The Tambov Region is located in the central part of European Russia. Bordered to the South and southwest on the Voronezh region in the West, and Lipetsk in the North, Ryazan, in the North-East and East of Penza, in the East and South-East of Saratov region.

The main wealth of the region is chernozem soils. Mineral resources include reserves of non-metallic building materials.

The main rivers of the Volga (Cna) and Don (Voronezh, Crow) basins.

The Tambov region has a significant tourist potential. The main competitive advantages of the region are environmental cleanliness; proximity to the capital region; availability of road and railway tracks; rich historical and cultural heritage; year-round holding of major events.

The region presents archaeological sites from the Mesolithic to the late Middle Ages, monuments of military and defensive character of the XVII century, wooden architecture, manor ensembles of the XVIII-beginning. XX centuries, historical monuments associated with the names of prominent figures of the state, science and culture. About 1,500 objects of cultural heritage, including objects of archeology, history, architecture and monumental art, are under state protection.

The dominant economic activities of the region are:

  • Industry: mechanical engineering, chemical industry, light industry, food processing industry.
  • Grain crops, sugar beets, sunflowers, fodder crops, and potatoes are cultivated in the region.
  • The livestock industry of the region specializes in the breeding of dairy and meat cattle, pigs, sheep and poultry.
