The Lipetsk Region is located in the central part of the European territory of Russia; it borders on the Voronezh, Kursk, Oryol, Tula, Ryazan, and Tambov regions.

Minerals: limestone, dolomite, sand, clay, cement raw materials. According to the reserves of carbonate raw materials, the region occupies the first place in the Russian Federation. Peat deposits are significant. Mineral springs and therapeutic mud.
The main directions of the agro-industrial complex: production of grain, sugar beet, potatoes, cattle breeding, pig breeding, poultry farming. In recent years, the production of high — energy agricultural crops-rapeseed, corn for grain-has been developing.

The Lipetsk region is a monopolist in Russia for the production of seven types of electrical steel, grinding machines and pressure cast iron pipes.

The dominant economic activities of the region are:

  • ferrous metallurgy, mechanical
  • engineering and metalworking,
  • chemical industry,
  • production of building materials,
  • food industry.
