Kursk oblast (The Kursk region) is bordered on the South, the Belgorod region, in the South-West and West — Ukraine, in the North-West of Bryansk oblast, in the North of Orel in the North-East Lipetsk, in the East — with the Voronezh region.
Grain, industrial, and forage crops are grown in the region. They breed cattle of the meat and dairy direction, pigs, poultry.

The Kursk region is a monopolist in Russia for the production of conveyor belts, polypropylene fibers, paracetamol, and technical drawing tools.

The dominant economic activities of the region are:

  • mining and ore dressing (based on the Kursk magnetic anomaly);
  • mechanical engineering;
  • chemical and petrochemical,
  • food,
  • light industry (knitting, hemp processing); production of building materials.
