Russia House
in Davos is continuing to welcome guests and business programme participants.
Today, the Russian residence in Davos welcomed over 600 people.
The second
day of the business programme kicked off with a discussion on inequality as a
barrier to economic growth. Taking part in the session were Maxim Oreshkin,
Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation (20162020); Ray
Dalio, financial markets guru and Founder of the investment company Bridgewater
Associates; and Tigran Khudaverdyan, Managing Director of Yandex.
«Inequality is
not just a political and social issue but a huge economic challenge. Nowadays,
well-established countries, companies and industries dont want competitors
emerging in developing countries and generally moderate their behaviour so as
to control as far as possible whats happening in terms of their
competition. This type of global pseudo-monopolistic behaviour is acting as a
serious barrier to global economic growth,» said Mr. Oreshkin during the
discussion.
In the
afternoon, a discussion was held entitled: Fathers and Sons: ESG Issues and
the Generation Gap. The main issue discussed by the panel was what companies
must do today in order to meet the values and requirements of the future
generation over the next 10 years.
«ESG primarily
involves the environment, social sector and corporate governance. Why are these
principles important? Theyre essential to create and maintain our common home.
Society, the government and companies are all we need for a peaceful existence.
In todays day and age, its important to discuss protecting the environment.
Its important to ensure that everyone can live in a fair society in which jobs
are created and essential healthcare measures are in place. All of that helps
build a healthy society for the future,» said special guest Cardinal Peter
Kodwo Appiah Turkson, Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development.
Can culture
give impetus to the restoration of respectful relations between Russia and the
West? What must be done to preserve cultural heritage and national traditions
while strengthening Russias authority in the cultural sphere? These questions
were raised during a session entitled: Cultural Ties to Enhance Cooperation
between Russia and the West. Among the participants were Chief Rabbi of Moscow
and President of the Conference of European Rabbis, Pinchas Goldschmidt;
President of Orion Heritage, David Iakobachvili; Associate Professor at St.
Petersburg State University, Natalia Kovalevskaya; President of ER-Telecom
Holding, Andrey Kuzyaev; and General Director of Creative Production, Julia
Morozova.
The joint events
held by the Roscongress Foundation and the World Economic Forum generated much
interest among Russia House guests. One of the sessions was dedicated to
cooperation between Russia and European countries (Europe-Russia Diplomacy
Exchange). «Russia and
Europe need one another, but there ought to be a new structure. Theres no need
reminding ourselves of how good things used to be, because thats in the
distant past. The world
needs changes», concluded Fyodor Lukyanov, Research Director at the Foundation for
Development and Support of the Valdai Discussion Club and Chief Editor of
Russia in Global Affairs Journal.
The business
programme concluded with a session on the development of artificial technology
in which participants discussed the development of national artificial
intelligence strategies aimed at increasing the economic potential of countries
across the world.
The Roscongress Foundation has
continued to sign a range of agreements in Davos. An agreement on cooperation
was signed by the Roscongress Foundation and the Moscow Department of External
Economic and International Relations with a view to running joint strategic
events to promote Moscow and Russia internationally.
The business
programme can be found on the official Russia House website: houserussia.com.
The official Russian residence is open to Davos guests and participants until 24 January.
