Russian Minister of Economic Development Maxim Oreshkin and Azerbaijani
Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov gave welcoming addresses at the opening
ceremony. The first event on business programme was an expanded meeting of the
RussiaAzerbaijan
and AzerbaijanRussia
Business Councils.
«The 10th
RussiaAzerbaijan Interregional Forum is a major component in the development
of cooperation between our countries. More than 70 Russian regions are closely
cooperating with Azerbaijan, and such events aim to expand and strengthen these
ties», Oreshkin said. «Our countries face major challenges in the transport
sector, the modernization of technology, and cooperation in industry and
agriculture. Active work is underway to increase tourist flows. We continue to
expand cultural and humanitarian cooperation. I am certain that the
interregional forum will help implement key projects in these areas».
Jabbarov told the
Forum participants:
«Strengthening
and expanding bilateral relations and identifying promising areas for further
cooperation at the leadership level of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the
Russian Federation have created a new level of mutually beneficial
collaboration between our countries. The [10th] anniversary of the
interregional forum plays an important role in the development of our ties,
including in light of the policies that [our] countries are pursuing to modernize
and diversify the economy. Azerbaijani-Russian relations have been based on the
principles of friendship, mutual respect, and reliable partnership for many
years. Azerbaijani investors are involved in various projects in Russia, and
joint projects are actively being implemented in our country. Russia is one of
Azerbaijans key trade partners. Mutually beneficial strategic interests have
traditionally been the basis of relations between our countries. Today is a
good time for our countries to intensify and expand the positive trends in the
development of trade and economic potential. Azerbaijan attaches great
importance to its partnership with Russia and we hope that the upcoming forum
will make a significant contribution to the development of active cooperation
in all areas of the economy, particularly transport and logistics, agriculture,
tourism as well as humanitarian affairs, which will strengthen and establish
new partnerships between the business community and will strategically
contribute to the further development of Azerbaijani-Russian relations».
