The Eurasian Economic Union opens up great prospects for member countries to develop trade. Speakers at the 16th Russia—Kazakhstan Interregional Cooperation Forum organised by the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation and the Roscongress Foundation will discuss opportunities and potential for cooperation in promoting cross-border trade. The discussion will take place within the Development of Cross-Border Trade: Eurasian Focus panel, which will take place on 6 November.

The panel will be coordinated by the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The panel will be moderated by Rafael Abramyan, Director of the Department for Economic Cooperation with CIS Countries and Development of Eurasian Integration at the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, and Kanat Olzhabaev, Director of the Department of International Trade at the Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Participants in the panel will include, among others, Natalya Levinson, Acting Deputy Governor — Deputy Chairman for Financial and Economic Policy of the Orenburg Region Government; Denis Kushner, Deputy Minister of Economy of the Omsk Region; Vladimir Padalko, Vice President, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation; Natalya Gonchar, Vice President for Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) at the Russian Copper Company; Mikhail Sutyaginskiy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Titan Group, Member of the General Council of Delovaya Rossiya; and Stanislav Naumov, Director General, Eurasian Centre for Integration Studies and Communications.

A major focus of the discussion will be on the areas of cross-border cooperation where the impact of Eurasian integration is already felt. These topics will be covered in Natalya Levinson’s presentation themed «From Cross-Border Trade to Eurasian Integration Projects». Vladimir Padalko will discuss development scenarios in the context of addressing the most pressing issues of cross-border cooperation in his presentation «On the Near-Term Priorities in the Development of Eurasian Integration. A Business Perspective». Participants of the panel will discuss potentially effective measures for promoting cross-border cooperation, including humanitarian cooperation, and implementation of joint social projects.

«Russia and Kazakhstan are long-standing trading partners, so in the modern context it is important for us not only to maintain this partnership but also develop it by leveraging modern technology in manufacturing, communications and logistics. I am confident that such meetings and an open dialogue between our two sides we enable us to unlock the full potential of near-border trade,» said Vladimir Padalko.

Natalya Gonchar, as a representative of a major industrial company, will present the results of one of the existing joint business projects between Russia and Kazakhstan — development of the Vesenne-Aralchinskoye field. Mikhail Sutyaginskiy will talk about the prospects for cooperation in the petrochemical industry and international cooperation within the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).

The panel will also cover general topics that are most relevant today for the EEU members countries, e.g. the use of international cross-border cooperation experience in promotion of Eurasian integration and the most pressing regional issues to be addressed by the Eurasian Economic Commission.
