Advisor to the Russian President Anton Kobyakov held a
meeting with Uzbek Ambassador to Russia Botirjon Asadov in Moscow during which
the two officials discussed ways to strengthen trade and economic ties between
the countries as well as hold joint business events.
“Uzbekistan ranks fourth in terms of trade with Russia
among CIS countries. Trade and economic ties between our countries continue to
rapidly develop. Trade turnover is growing steadily, and reached USD 6 billion
in 2018. Cumulative Russian investment in the Uzbek economy is approaching USD
9 billion. More than 1,500 enterprises with capital from Russia are registered
in Uzbekistan,” Kobyakov said.
“The two countries have a long-term, multifaceted, and
mutually beneficial partnership based on the principles of mutual trust,
respect, and consideration for each other’s interests. Thanks to personal
friendly relations and an active trust-based dialogue between the presidents of
our countries – Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Vladimir Putin – our cooperation in
recent years has undergone an upsurge that is unprecedented and exceptional in
terms of its scale and scope and meets the aspirations and expectations of the
peoples of the two countries”, Asadov said.
Kobyakov and Asadov also exchanged views on the prospects
of launching a joint Russian-Uzbek project with the possible involvement of the
Roscongress Foundation, which would promote business and cultural events in an
effort to strengthen trade and economic cooperation, increase the flow of
investment in the Uzbek economy, and develop a business dialogue. The
Roscongress Foundation would serve as a partner of Uzbekistan on behalf of
Russia to host events.
Asadov noted that Uzbekistan attaches particular
importance to establishing cooperation with the Roscongress Foundation in order
to prepare for and hold major in Uzbekistan.
This year, an Uzbek delegation also plans to take part
in the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok on 4–6 September 2019. The
Roscongress Foundation is organizing the EEF.
