Prospects for development of the energy industry in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution were discussed at the panel session «Manufacturing Low Carbon Futures and Creating Global Sustainability» as part of the Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit (GMIS 2019) in Yekaterinburg.
It was noted during the debate that the energy industry had undergone rapid changes over the past 20 years. The Fourth Industrial Revolution and the Industrial Internet of Things are opening up new opportunities for technological innovation and development of clean, renewable materials, as well as for greater results at less cost.
«A key question facing the energy industry today is how to achieve a balance between energy production growth and environmental protection. The UAE has proposed a diversified energy portfolio including development of alternative and renewable energy sources. In addition, the Baraka nuclear project is under way. This will generate 25% of the UAE’s electricity and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 21 million tonnes. Rosatom supplies most of the nuclear fuel for NPP reactors under construction. I would like to note that we receive very high quality fuel from Russia», said Mohammed Al Hammadi, Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation.
Participants in the meeting stressed that environmental problems were crucial for any company today and innovative technologies will be vital for cutting emissions.
«The Internet of Things plays an important role in reducing emissions, while also minimising human error and boosting management efficiency», believes Jian Ouyang, Managing Director and President of Hunan Golden Furnace Science & Technology.
