One day to go: St. Petersburg is gearing up to host the Global Fishery Forum 2019, which will bring together delegations from 30 regions of Russia and 25 countries

The III Global Fishery Forum and International Exhibition of Fish Industry, Seafood and Technology (Seafood Expo Russia) begins in St. Petersburg on 10 July. Interest in this fish industry event, which was first organized by Rosrybolovstvo in 2017, is constantly growing. More and more countries are becoming involved in the Forum and Expo, new names are emerging, new thematic sections are being added, and the number of joint national and regional expo stands is rising.

The opening ceremony and other Forum and Expo events will be attended by Bekir Pakdemirli, Minister for Agriculture and Forestry, Republic of Turkey; Frederick Loua, Minister of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Maritime Economy, Republic of Guinea; Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru, State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock, Bangladesh; Has Sareth, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Kingdom of Cambodia; Amiran Kakalia, Minister of Agriculture, Republic of Abkhazia; Choi Joon-wook, Deputy Minister of Marine Policy, Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Republic of Korea; Atanas Dobrev, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, Bulgaria.

«The Forum has become a convenient and relevant platform for discussing and outlining ways co-operating further in developing sustainable fisheries, technological and scientific progress in the industry. The Exhibition shows how the fishing industry lives and breathes, how ambitious projects are being implemented and innovations are becoming part of the industry’s production chain,» said Ilya Shestakov, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Russia and Head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries.

Heads of international regional fisheries management organizations will participate in the Forum’s activities, among them Anne Christine Brusendorff, General Secretary of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES); Suam Kim, President of the North Pacific Anadromous Fish Commission (NPAFC); Jacques Verborgh, President of the North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC), and Marcio Castro de Souza, Senior Fishery Officer at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Russian delegates at the Forum include Sergey Mitin, Senior Vice-Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Agriculture and Food Policy and Environmental Management; Dmitry Patrushev, Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation; Igor Orlov, Governor of the Arkhangelsk Region; Vladimir Ilyukhin, Governor of Kamchatka Territory; as well as representatives of big business and industry associations.

The main theme of the III Global Fishery Forum is «Ocean of Opportunities: Nature, Economy, and People». Use of aquatic bioresources of the World Ocean will be considered in the context of the environment, economy and life of society at the Forum conference and roundtables.

The business programme features discussion of the most pressing topics, such as digitalization of industry, research and development of the Arctic and Antarctic, efficient use of aquatic bioresources, the specifics and capitalization of the fishing business, creation of efficient distribution chains, the role of marketing in shaping demand, and development of aquaculture in the world and in Russia.

The International Exhibition of Fish Industry, Seafood and Technology will bring together more than 300 companies from 30 regions of Russia and 25 countries — 34% more than in 2018. National expositions will be displayed by Norway, Iceland, Denmark, Morocco, Turkey, China and Spain; regional stands will be shown by Arkhangelsk, Astrakhan, Kaliningrad, Rostov, Leningrad, Ulyanovsk, Murmansk, and Magadan Regions, Republics of Karelia and Tatarstan, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District and Primorsky Territory.

International bilateral negotiations will be held on the sidelines of the Forum and platforms for business presentations and meetings will be available. A tasting programme and master classes on fish preparation and cutting are also planned.

The III Global Fishery Forum and International Exhibition of Fish Industry, Seafood and Technology (Seafood Expo Russia) will be held from 10 to 12 July 2019 in St. Petersburg, at the ExpoForum Convention and Exhibition Centre.
