DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, 8 July 2019 — The President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, will speak at the Plenary Session of the second Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit (GMIS), a joint initiative by the UAE Ministry of Energy and Industry and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), which will take place from 9 to 11 July 2019 in city of Yekaterinburg, Russia.
President Putin’s speech at the Plenary Session of the Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit is expected to emphasise the role that the manufacturing sector plays in achieving global prosperity. The Opening Ceremony preceding the Plenary Session will be attended by H.E. Denis Manturov, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, H.E. Eng. Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Industry of the United Arab Emirates, Li Yong, Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and H.E. Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Group Chief Executive Officer of Mubadala Investment Company, along with several other high-level ministerial delegates and private sector leaders from around the world. Vladimir Putin will also highlight Russia’s efforts on using Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies to develop new disruptive innovations that are inspired by nature and aimed to contribute to the sustainability and wellbeing of global communities for generations to come.

The Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit, which was successful in bringing over 3,000 leaders from government, business, and civil society at its inaugural edition at the Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi in March 2017, will convene for its second edition (GMIS 2019) in Russia, to advance manufacturing and industrial development globally. With attendance confirmed from high-level executives of global organisations such as Mubadala Investment Company, GE, IBM, Honeywell, Solvay, Rockwell Automation, PwC, as well as major Russian organisations such as SBERBANK, and VostokCoal, the Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit aims to take a transformational approach in shaping the future of the manufacturing sector.

The Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit is a multi-stakeholder platform which aims to establish a global consensus on the future of manufacturing by convening leaders from governments, businesses, and civil society. GMIS 2019 was officially announced by President Putin in his statement at the opening ceremony of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in 2018. The Summit will be held under the theme of nature-inspired technologies, otherwise known as biomimetic design and biomimicry, and will explore how manufacturing can play a key role in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by harnessing the transformative opportunities presented by technologies shaping the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).

The Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit will be held over the course of three days alongside INNOPROM, an annual Industrial Trade Fair held in Russia since 2010.
