On 24 October, RussiaAfrica Summit will be held in Sochi, co-chaired by
Vladimir Putin, the President of the Russian Federation, and Abdel Fattah
el-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt and Chairperson of the African
Union. This is the first event in the history of RussianAfrican relations of
this level, to which the heads of all the states of the African continent are
invited, as well as the leaders of major sub-regional associations and
organizations.
At the Summit, there will be a particular focus on the current state and
future prospects of Russias relations with the countries of the African
continent, and the growth of cooperation in the political, economic, technical,
and cultural spheres. A wide range of issues on the international agenda will
be discussed, including joint measures to combat new challenges and threats,
and strengthening regional stability. Following the meeting, it is planned that
a political declaration on the main areas of RussianAfrican cooperation will
be adopted.
On 23 October, as part of these high-level events, the leaders of Russia
and Egypt will open an Economic Forum, which will include Russian and African officials
and representatives of major businesses. At the end of the Forum, it is
expected that a substantial package of trade, economic, and investment agreements
will be signed.
