The Russian President has instructed the Government to designate the sole contractor for works and services related to the reclamation of the city dump in Chelyabinsk in 20192020 within one month.
«According to Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 204 dated 7 May 2018 On the national goals and strategic objectives for the development of the Russian Federation for the period until 2024, environmental protection and ecology are among the top priorities for our countrys development. Active work is currently underway to create modern infrastructure that ensures the safe handling of waste and to eliminate the most hazardous accumulated environmental damage. Special attention is being paid to the creation and improvement of the environmental regulation system based on the use of the best available global technologies. Given the tasks that have been set, we aim to ensure that the Chelyabinsk Region implements a serious programme for the environmental rehabilitation of the region. I am certain that the citys preparations for the SCO and BRICS summits in 2020 will help to speed up this issue», Advisor to the Russian President Anton Kobyakov said.
Daily work is being carried out in the South Urals capital to improve the ecological situation in the city in order to properly organize and host the events of the SCO and BRICS summits during the Russian Federations chairmanship in 20192020.
«We face a serious task to eliminate at least 20% of the negative environmental impact in the Chelyabinsk Region. The solution should be comprehensive and the measures should be effective: measures need to be carried out for the reclamation of the Chelyabinsk city dump in addition to work on managing air quality and clean and restore the waters of the Miass River», Chelyabinsk Region Governor Boris Dubrovsky said.
As part of preparations for the SCO and BRICS summits, the Chelyabinsk Region was previously selected as a pilot region to implement the law on air quality management through a system of quotas on pollutant emissions. The Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has prepared a draft Federal Law to amend the Federal Law On Air Protection as well as certain legislative acts to reduce air pollution. Work is currently underway on the draft law in order to submit it to the State Duma of the Russian Federation as soon as possible.
