10th St. Petersburg International Legal Forum to Discuss Ways to Improve Judicial Representation

The 10th St Petersburg International Legal Forum will be hosting a session on ‘The Professionalization of Judicial Proceedings’.

Event participants will be invited to discuss possible requirements to be imposed on judicial representatives and consider options for designing mechanisms that would allow lawyers to take on the roles of judicial representatives.

«The absence of clear criteria for assessing the quality of judicial representation makes it possible to escape liability in the event that unqualified legal assistance has been rendered. We should make procedural representation of this kind build public confidence in the state and the guarantees concerning a right to receive qualified legal assistance, including legal assistance free of charge,» Deputy Minister of Justice of the Russian Federation Maxim Beskhmelnitsyn said.

The event will be attended by Mikhail Barshchevsky Plenipotentiary Representative of the Government of the Russian Federation at the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation and the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation; Maxim Beskhmelnitsyn, Deputy Minister of Justice of the Russian Federation; Yuri Ivanenko, Judge of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation; Yuri Pilipenko, President of the Federal Chamber of Lawyers of the Russian Federation; Dmitry Dubenetsky, Managing Director of DOM.RF; Alla Generalova, Head of Tax Practice at SIBUR; Sergei Pepeliaev, Managing Partner of the Pepeliaev Group; Stepan Zaitsev, Legal Director at Siemens; Yelena Avakyan, Vice President of the Russian Federal Bar Association, and Gennady Sharov, Representative of the Council of the Federal Chamber of Lawyers of the Russian Federation in the Southern Federal District.
