On 25
May the world celebrates Africa Day. The Roscongress Foundation send greetings
to partners and colleagues from the African continent on this momentous
occasion in their history.
Africa
Day is celebrated annually by the countries of the African Union following a
decision of the United Nations. On this day in 1963, the intergovernmental
Organization of African Unity (OAU) was established at the 1st
Conference of African Governments in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia). The organization’s
Charter was signed by thirty African countries.
This
year marks the 20th anniversary since Organization of African Unity
became the African Union. This event marked the entry of the pan-African
multilateral structure to a qualitatively higher level of interaction in the
political, socio-economic, and other spheres.
In 2019,
the Roscongress Foundation organized the Russia-Africa Summit in Sochi, which
became a truly landmark event. The platform created good conditions for
fruitful cooperation in various directions.
“The
Russian side aims to continue preparing the second, as well as subsequent
Russian-African summits and aims to make them as efficient as possible.
Currently, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other ministries are
taking steps to build a full and mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia
and the African countries, including the formation of a reliable social and
economic infrastructure, food and energy security on the continent,” said Oleg
Ozerov, Ambassador-at-Large and Head of the Secretariat of the
Russia-Africa Partnership Forum.
Preparations
for the second Russia-Africa Summit are currently underway.
At the
St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which will be held from 15 to 18 June this year, the African
agenda traditionally is of great importance. The SPIEF 2022 programme includes
the Russia-Africa Business Dialogue, which since 2016 has been the annual
meeting place for representatives of Russian and African business and official
communities.
