A team from the Roscongress Foundation’s School Friend educational project and the Extracurricular Projects Department of the Interregional Contact Centre, with the support of Pulkovo Outlet Village, the Fedorovsky House of Culture, the Karavella student pedagogical team, the Pyatnitsa student construction squad, the Strela student detachments of guides, the DobroProfi project, the Okhta Teenage youth club, and the Izmerenie youth space organized a charitable New Year’s party for children from low-income families, single-parent families, and families with disabled children.
The event was attended by over 20 children who took part in drawing master classes, viewed an exhibition of retro cars, and were guests at a theatrical performance. The volunteers prepared a special children’s programme for the kids. Upon conclusion of the New Year’s party, the event organizers and partners presented the children with gifts.
«Children’s smiles are the greatest treasure in the world. They give us a feeling of calmness, comfort, and happiness. Our job is to create all the conditions so that children continue to believe in a fairy tale during this difficult time, while illuminating the world around us with their smiles. Such campaigns allow to unite generations and teach responsibility and goodness. And most importantly, the children, despite the circumstances, feel that they are not alone,» said Ilya Gulidin, the head of special projects of the RoscongressFoundation’s Participant Relations Directorate.
The School Friend project was launched in January 2021. Its main goal is to create additional educational opportunities as part of the school curriculum to improve academic performance and the successful passing of final exams (for young people studying in graduation classes).
«We are seeing great interest in School Friend from the outside. In particular, at the #WEARETOGETHER Civic Forum held in early December, we received an offer to integrate ourselves into the educational system in African countries. I am certain that the project is very promising and has great potential for development both in Russia and abroad, » Roscongress Foundation Deputy CEO Maria Kiseleva said.
The project’s objectives include getting university students involved in organizing and holding classes on the main subjects of the school curriculum, identifying the needs of students of specialized institutions for the curriculum subjects as well as monitoring changes in the academic performance of students who are supervised by a volunteer tutor. In addition, the project pays special attention to supporting students during the period when they take their final exams at school.
