St. Petersburg has been chosen as the venue for the meeting of the Council of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation states and meetings of BRICS leaders in 2020, according to order No. 380 dated 15.08.2019 signed by the Russian President.
Previously, an interdepartmental meeting was held in St. Petersburg at which the roadmap was approved for preparing the city to host the 2020 Summits.
Let us recall that Russia has already hosted united summits. In 2015, the SCO and BRICS Summits took place in Ufa, in 2009 — in Yekaterinburg. The SCO Summit was held in St. Petersburg in 2002 and in Moscow in 2003 and 1997.
