TheInternational Cybersecurity Congress 2018 (ICC), organized by PJSC Sberbank
with the support of the Roscongress Foundation, ANO Digital Economy and the
Association of Banks of Russia, ended in Moscow. Over 2,200 delegates from 51
countries took part in the work of the global industry forum, which was the
first event of such scale dedicated to the subject of countering cybercrime.
Ahead
of ICC 2018, on July 4, Sberbank together with its subsidiary BI.ZONE presented the research called Threat Zone
17/18: New Challenges of the Digital World, where the experts presented the
main directions of cybercrime in 2017, and the forecast for the near future.
The report contains real examples and cases: descriptions of existing hacker
groups and common attack schemes, examples of phishing emails and malware, real
damage and consequences from major incidents. According to the forecasts, by
the end of 2018 the world economy will lose over $1 trillion as a result of
cybercrime; for Russia, the figure will exceed 1.1 trillion roubles.
«Cybercrime
is a global threat, and countering it successfully requires international
collaboration,» emphasized Stanislav Kuznetsov, Deputy Chairman of the
Executive Board of Sberbank.
The
eventful business programme of the International Cybersecurity Congress
included panel discussions and sessions on global cyberspace challenges.
Industry experts discussed how to deal with DDoS attacks and modern hacker
groups, how to reduce the risks in the era of digital transformation, new
strategies for protecting confidential information, how to make the world in
transition safer, and whether the world is ready to respond to the global cyber
threat.
Participants
of the discussions agreed that it is necessary to develop the culture of
security, to use artificial intelligence more, and to make solutions in this
area more accessible to customers, to be constantly prepared for hacking, and
to collaborate. The latter aspect is considered critical, as only cross-border
cooperation will help to meet the challenges of cybercrime.
«We intend to develop and improve international exchange of information on cybercrime. The Government will decide in the near future on the agency that will be in charge of this work. We know very well that cyber threats have reached a scale where they can be dealt with only through the joint efforts of the entire international community. <...> Russia has always called for a joint and fair settlement of any arising problems, let alone disputes. At the same time, we believe that security measures and the regulation of this space must not hinder its technological and innovative development. As I already said, our turbulent digital era depends on freedom, including the freedom to communicate as well as to exchange experience and ideas,» said the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in his speech at the ICC plenary session.
Representatives of federal authorities of the Russian Federation, executives of major Russian and foreign companies, vendors of cybersecurity products and services, and acclaimed experts in this area took part in business events of the International Cybersecurity Congress: Russian President Vladimir Putin; Deputy Prime Minister Maxim Akimov; Sberbank President and Chairman of the Executive Board Herman Gref; Interpol President Meng Hongwei; IBM Security General Manager Marc van Zadelhoff; Visa Inc. Vice President Penny Lane; Huawei Technologies Co. Vice President Mika Lauhde; Head of World Economic Forum Centre for Cybersecurity Troels Oerting, and other industry representatives.
«The International Cybersecurity Congress made it possible to highlight current problems and identify the global challenges that the modern technologies and the rapid development of the digital society pose to us. Russian businesses and government need not only to establish the dialogue within the country, but also to actively develop the tools for countering cyber threats at the international level. Moreover, the products and tools developed by the Russian companies that are successfully applied in our country can and should be used abroad. Representatives of more than 50 countries of the world who participated in the Congress took the first steps towards the dialogue on world cyber security, and we hope that interaction will continue at other events. The world needs a joint document on cybersecurity regulation, and Russia with its truly leading products can become the frontrunner in this matter,» said Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation.
At
the Congress, Sberbank signed the agreement on cooperation in the field of
cybersecurity with the World Economic Forum, while the credit organization’s
subsidiary BI.ZONE concluded the memorandum of understanding with the Vostok
technology project, and agreed on further cooperation with the Department of
Information and Communication Technology of the Republic of the Philippines, as
well as with the Waves blockchain platform.
