Synthesis of Art, Technology, and the Future: The Roscongress Foundation to Hold a Large-Scale Digital Art Competition

Синтез искусства, технологий и будущего: Фонд Росконгресс проведет масштабный конкурс цифрового искусства

The Roscongress Foundation, supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and ROSIZO, will hold the "Create the Future 2050" digital art contest from April to June 2022, with the results to be announced at the anniversary of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The Business Priority innovation platform and Lobachevsky Accelerator, who have extensive expertise in conducting various competitive initiatives on a federal scale, will be the operators of the contest.

The "Create the Future 2050" digital art contest will bring together artists, leading museums and galleries in the country, art industry experts, and all those who care about digital art. The project aims to draw attention to the digital art, which has been developing rapidly in recent years and significantly reshaping the art industry.

"The digital paradigm is at the core of today's life. Digital technology has already revolutionized the way classical art is displayed, making it truly accessible to all in a short time. Masterpieces can be viewed from the comfort of one's own home. However, technology without creativity is just a tool. At the same time, contemporary digital art as a new cultural experience is emerging as a powerful creative industry with a huge turnover. The final of the "Create the Future 2050" digital art contest will take place as part of the anniversary SPIEF", Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation (Deputy Chairman of the Organizing Committee – Executive Secretary) said.

The cross-cutting theme of the contest – the future – was chosen for a reason. For centuries, our way of life was first invented by artists, fiction writers and visionaries, and then scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs brought their visions into reality. Modern information technology is opening up new opportunities for artists as well. In particular, with the relatively new NFT (non-fungible token) technology everyone can become an owner of a digital object, which is something that was previously impossible. The art objects of the "Create the Future 2050" digital art contest participants will be transferred into the NFT format and placed on Joys, Russia's first marketplace to buy or sell such objects.

"These days, the synthesis of art and new technologies opens up new opportunities for the artist's creative realization and their dialogue with the viewers. Images of the future, which have always held a special place in national and world culture, are now also being created digitally. I am sure that, thanks to the diversity of themes proposed in the contest, no idea will go unclaimed," Olga Lyubimova, Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, said.

The "Create the Future 2050" digital art contest is open to everyone – professional and amateur artists alike. To submit an application, go to future2050.space. Applications are accepted until 30 May inclusive. Participants are invited to offer their ideas on the future and submit their works in several categories: World of Wealth and Prosperity; The World of Blockchain and Information Equality; World of Harmony and Health; Media of the Future; The World of Self-Knowledge and Man of the Future; Cities and Corporations of a New Type; An Enlightened Man of the Future, with the Russian society “Znanie” acting as a partner, and a special category for participants aged under 14 – the World of the Future through the Eyes of Children.

Works by professionals and amateurs will be judged separately. All art objects will receive preliminary assessments from experts of the Polytechnic Museum, a partner of the project, and then will be submitted to an honorary jury. The honorary jury will include Vladimir Gusev, Director of the State Russian Museum; Vasily Tsereteli, Director of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art; Svetlana Chupsheva, General Director, Agency for Strategic Initiatives to Promote New Projects; Sergey Pershin, General Director, Centre for the Development of Cultural Initiatives ANO; Project Manager, Tavrida Art Cluster; Elena Titova, Director of the All-Russian Decorative Arts Museum; Elena Pronicheva, General Director of the Polytechnic Museum; Andrey Cheremisinov, Director of Communications Department of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom; Maxim Dreval, General Director, Russian society "Znanie"; Mikhail Shvydkoy, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for International Cultural Cooperation, and others.

The finalists' works will be displayed on the LED panels at the anniversary of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), which will be held from 15 to 18 June in St. Petersburg. The city will also host a charity auction of works by contest participants in the NFT format in support of the Circle of Kindness Foundation to support children with severe life-threatening and chronic illnesses, including rare diseases.

"ASI pays special attention to supporting creative industries as an important factor in the sustainable development of our country. And digital art is one of the promising elements of the creative economy. Technology allows young people, first and foremost, to distribute their artwork on the Web and monetize it. If previously a young artist had to face a lot of problems and expenses related to organization of exhibitions, today they can present their work to the public in two clicks and get instant feedback. I am sure that the Roscongress Foundation contest will draw public attention to new creative technologies and promote their further popularization," Svetlana Chupsheva, General Director, Agency for Strategic Initiatives to Promote New Projects, which is the project's partner, stressed.

In addition, a series of exhibitions of the best works is planned for the second half of 2022 at leading museums and galleries around the country. This way, each participant of the "Create the Future 2050" digital art contest will have a unique opportunity to exhibit their work at iconic art venues and present it to the public. Museums, in turn, will be able to adapt their dialogue with the audience to current trends.
