Boris Marcinkevich: Atomic energy

Expert opinion
6 June 2019

The main theme of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2019 is Creating a Sustainable Development Agenda. In 2015, the UN adopted its Sustainable Development Goals, encompassing 169 targets over 17 goals. Goal 7 is entitled ‘Affordable and Clean Energy’. The Ninth International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development took place in November 2018 under the auspices of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. There, it was stated that the problem of climate change cannot be discussed without covering nuclear power. It therefore stands to reason that the subject should similarly feature in discussions at SPIEF 2019.
