Pursuing the 2024 Target: Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and Therapy

1 December 2021
Следуя цели 2024: предупреждение и терапия сердечно-сосудистых заболеваний

An expert discussion on the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases will be held today as part of the business programme of the Healthcare in Russia 2021 event, which will take place at the Rossiya Segodnya Multimedia International Press Centre and will be organized by the Roscongress Foundation and the Health Protection Committee of the Russian State Duma.

Circulatory system diseases account for 47% of the mortality rate in Russia. A subsidized drug provision programme for patients with acute cardiovascular conditions has been expanded since 2021 as an additional measure to prevent premature mortality from cardiovascular diseases. However, most deaths are due to chronic diseases of the circulatory system, which should be prevented based on a unified system of cardiovascular risk management, as is the case with acute pathologies. Given the potential of modern drug therapy, the prioritization of early outpatient diagnosis, and prevention of complications, this approach will reduce mortality rates from circulatory system diseases, including among the working age population.

«Expanding the subsidized programme for patients with cardiovascular diseases could make a significant contribution to increasing the life expectancy of Russians and reducing mortality and disability. Programmes for the prevention and early detection of diseases should also become a priority in the fight against serious pathologies of the cardiovascular system,» said Yevgeny Shlyakhto, Director General of the Almazov National Medical Research Centre of the Russian Ministry of Health and President of the Russian Cardiological Society.

At the meeting, experts will discuss how the experience gained from the COVID-19 pandemic has affected improvements to the cardiological care system in Russia, what measures to systemically improve the provision of medical care to patients with acute and chronic cardiovascular diseases could help reduce mortality from circulatory system diseases, what role a personalized approach to early diagnosis plays in the cardiovascular risk management system as well as the prospects for state policy in promoting a healthy lifestyle as the most significant measure for preventing cardiovascular disease.

Healthcare in Russia 2021 will be broadcast live on the website of the Roscongress Foundation’s Healthy Life project: forumhealth.ru.

The event’s partners are AstraZeneca and Novartis.
