Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has approved a plan for the implementation of the Russky Island Development Concept. The corresponding directive was posted on the Governments website on 3 December 2019.
«The plan, in particular, calls for creating conditions to attract private investment, the infrastructural development of Russky Island, the development of a scientific and educational cluster, the development of tourism and recreational potential, and the creation of conditions for a comfortable life,» a note attached to the directive says.
The document was submitted by the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East, which must annually submit a report on its progress in implementing the plan to the Government.
The Russky Island Development Concept was adopted by the Russian Government in May 2019 and will be implemented in two stages by 2027. During the first stage, an advanced special economic zone as well as road transport and utility infrastructure will be built by 2022. There are also plans to open an international cooperation centre with convention, exhibition, hotel, and office infrastructure, a nuclear medicine centre, a tourism and recreation centre for the natural sites of Russky Island, a multifunctional family centre with a water park, the Vladivostok Fortress tourism complex, and an innovative and cultural centre.
During the second stage, which will last until 2027, investment projects will be implemented and the infrastructure of Russky Island will be further developed, including the construction of the infrastructure of Far Eastern Federal University and the creation of an innovative tech park, among other things.
«The construction of the convention and exhibition centre on Russky Island will help Vladivostok secure the status of one of the leading business centres in the Asia-Pacific region. The year-round centre will become a platform for holding major events and demonstrating projects that aim to develop the Far East. With the advent of modern convention and exhibition infrastructure, the Eastern Economic Forum will be able to attain a new level as a unique platform for the development of an international dialogue,» said Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation and Executive Secretary of the Eastern Economic Forum Organizing Committee.
