The topic of grassroots sports development, which was brought up at the meeting of the Presidential Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports, will be represented in the business programme of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which will be held on 6–8 June 2019 in St. Petersburg.

By 2024, more than half of Russia’s population, about 55% should be exercising regularly, Vladimir Putin said during a meeting of the Presidential Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports. To date, this number has almost reached 40%, as prescribed in the 2030 Strategy for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports. The head of the state issued instructions for the government to adopt a new development strategy 2030 by October 2020. The President ordered for national projects to stipulate for initiatives aimed at the development of sports and physical education, and called for setting up the most favourable terms for public-private partnership in the sports industry.

Two years ago, the Roscongress Foundation included the sports section in programmes of the significant economic forums. During this time, workshops and meetings with Olympic champions, grassroots races, corporate games for forum hosting enterprises, and gala matches for forum participants have become traditional and widespread.

“Roscongress Foundation puts a spotlight on sports. More than 10,000 people have already participated in the Foundation’s sporting projects, which have received support from the Ministry of Sport, ROC, sports federations and major companies. Sports legends boasting more than 40 Olympic gold medals have participated in our projects. At that, major aspects of promoting grassroots sports, Sports for All have gone mainstream in business programmes of economic forums. A new dialogue on the implementation of the hottest objectives relayed at the meeting of the Presidential Council will be a part of the business programme of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum,” said Georgy Bryusov, Deputy CEO of the Roscongress Foundation.
