Sochi Forum to address agribusiness policy

8 February 2019
В Сочи обсудят региональную агропромышленную политику

The export potential of Russia’s regions will be one of the topics on the agenda of the Russian Investment Forum in Sochi on 14-15 February. During the business session ‘Exporting Agricultural Output. The Regional Agenda’, participants will discuss Russia’s export ambitions on the international food market. The discussion will focus on the development and effectiveness of regional agribusiness policies and export development strategies. The session’s agenda will cover issues concerning the modernization of the agro-industrial complex taking into account the diversity of the country’s regions, the export potential of particular regional products, and international experience that can be used to build effective regional export strategies.

The session will be attended by Russian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sergey Levin, Head of the Republic of Karelia Artur Parfenchikov, Belgorod Region Governor Yevgeny Savchenko, Vice President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Yelena Dybova, Cherkizovo Group CEO and Chairman of the Board Sergey Mikhailov, Mars President Valery Shchapov, and Director of the Italian Trade Agency’s Moscow Office Pier Paolo Celeste, among others.

«Today, the country’s agro-industrial complex faces the strategic task of more than doubling the export of agricultural products by 2024. Unprecedented measures of state support have been provided in order to accomplish this — total funding for this purpose will amount to RUB 406.8 billion in the next six years. Achieving the target indicators will specifically depend on the active position of the regions and the contribution of each region of the Russian Federation to increasing the volume of agricultural production and improving its competitiveness around the world. The regions need to clearly understand which areas of agricultural production they need to develop taking into account their own specifics and export potential. It is essential to ensure the accelerated technical and technological modernization of enterprises and increase the production of high value-added products. I am certain that Russia currently has a wide range of opportunities on the global food market and that our country will not only become one of the largest suppliers of agricultural raw materials in the future, but will also take on a worthy place as an exporter of products with a high degree of processing», Russian Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev said.

The business programme of the Russian Investment Forum is available on the event’s official website. The Forum is being organized by the Roscongress Foundation.
