On November 15, 2017, Murmansk will host a regional session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum entitled ‘Russia’s Regions: New Areas of Growth – The Arctic Agenda’. The event is being organized by the Roscongress Foundation jointly with the Russian Export Center (REC) and the Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI).
The main topics under discussion will be the development of the Arctic regions, the fostering of cooperative ties, the deepening of international collaboration, the growth of manufacturing, and the formation of a new national initiative aimed at opening up the Arctic.
Participants will discuss a range of current issues concerning the problems and prospects associated with Arctic development. What is currently being proposed in terms of legislation to develop state policy in the Arctic? What can be done to stimulate the development of interregional and international ties in order to establish a new industrial and economic platform in the Arctic? What state support measures will enable an increase in shipping along the Northern Sea Route, the modernization of transport and other infrastructure, the installation of safety and communications facilities in ports and, consequently, help to drive the socioeconomic development of Russia’s Arctic regions?
