Vladivostok Open: 4 Tokyo 2020 Prize Winners and Athletes from 25 Countries

The sports and entertainment programme of the 7th Eastern Economic Forum was branded the Vladivostok Open and combined events in 12 athletic disciplines. Olympic champion Liliya Akhaimova; Tokyo 2020 medallists Zhang Liang (China), Anna Prakaten and Muslim Hajimagomedov; vice world chess champion Sergey Karjakin, and other renowned athletes took part in EEF 2022 events. Athletes from 25 countries came to Vladivostok, among them are China, Mongolia, India, Thailand, Slovakia, Hungary, and others.

The Vladivostok Open programme was created by RC-Sport, the sporting platform of the Roscongress Foundation, in cooperation with all-Russian federations and with the support of the Ministry of Sport and the Government of Primorsky Region. “The sporting part of the Forum is very representative, and this is no coincidence. Sport sees its main objective in creating most comfortable conditions for our citizens to engage in physical activity. We set an example for our friendly countries in terms of building sport into economy and into everyday life of our citizens. Together we pay great attention to the development and culture of healthy lifestyle, which is the basis of the stable development of society,” said the Minister of Sport Oleg Matytsin.

The Ministry of Sport was represented in the Far East Street by two pavilions the business pavilion and the ‘Arena GTO’, where the Far East Open Cup ‘2022 GTO Games’ was held for the first time. A world record was also set at the ‘Arena GTO’ when Viktor Philippov did 78 pull-ups in one minute.

For the Russian boxing and rowing teams, the EEF 2022 tournaments were the first clash with renowned foreign opponents since sanctions were introduced against Russian sport. The Russian boxing team led by Tokyo 2020 medallist Muslim Hajimagomedov won 4–1 over an Asian team made up of eminent boxers from Thailand, India, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. Of note was a super heavyweight bout in which Spartakiade 2022 winner Alexei Dronov defeated 2021 Junior World Champion Jahongir Zakirov of Uzbekistan.

Rowing teams from Russia, China, Uzbekistan, and Belarus took part in an international regatta on Russky Island, sponsored by Norilsk Nickel. Tokyo 2020 medallist Anna Prakaten won the tournament in the single boat. Elena Danilyuk’s women’s foursome brought another victory for the Russian team. Tokyo 2020 medallist Zhang Liang together with Liu Dang brought the Chinese team victory in the men’s doubles. Uzbekistan’s Zhasurbek Mavlanov, the Asian champion, finished just 0.02 seconds ahead of Russia’s Alexey Kiyashko. Uzbekistan also won the men’s eight. The regatta was preceded by a VIP rowing simulator run with the participation of Oleg Matytsin, Minister of Sport; Pavel Volkov, State Secretary – Deputy Minister for Development of the Far East and the Arctic; TV presenter Dmitry Guberniev; Director of the Russian National Team Centre Georgy Bryusov; and Olympic Champion and President of the Russian Rowing Federation (RAF) Alexey Svirin. Also, EEF 2022, a cooperation agreement was signed between RC-Sport and Rowing Federation of Russia.

Seven medallists from Russia, Hungary, Slovakia, Mongolia, and Uzbekistan took part in an international mas-wrestling tournament at the 2022 World Championships. The Russian champion Elena Surkova and Evgeniy Kotsur were the winners of the debut SUP Surf League SUP Surfing Tournament. More than 200 paddle boarding professionals and amateurs from Russia, China, India, Malawi, Colombia, Ecuador, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan joined the competition.

The U18 Cyber Tour of CS:GO was the first international cybersport tournament in Primorsky Region. Kazakhstan team defeated the Russian team in the final. One of Russia’s best CS:GO players, Mikhail DOSIA Stolyarov, gave a master class for young athletes from Vladivostok, and also played in a show match together with the coaches of the participating CyberTour U18 teams.

Olympic champion in gymnastics Liliya Akhaimova hosted a warm-up for participants in a charity run in support of the Amur tiger. Sber team won the corporate run. Second place went to the Russian Railways team, with the Roscongress Foundation coming in third. Team ‘Russia – Land of Opportunity’ was headed by its CEO Alexei Komissarov. The team included participants in the Other Cause project who had performed a creative assignment on the Amur tigers. EEF 2022 hosted a signing ceremony for the agreement between the ‘Russia – Land of Opportunity’ platform and the Roscongress Foundation signed a cooperation agreement providing for a system of tasks and incentives for young people through the ‘Other Cause’ project.

Sergey Karjakin, the famous grandmaster, played a simultaneous exhibition for EEF 2022 participants and also met with chess enthusiasts in Primorsky Region.

A large-scale programme of table tennis tournaments was organized for EEF 2022 participants. Oleg Matytsin, Minister of Sport, and Alexander Babakov, Vice Speaker of the State Duma and President of the Russian Table Tennis Federation, played in the Evening League tournament. Denis Andreev, Deputy Plenipotentiary Envoy of the Russian President in the Far Eastern Federal District, won the Roscongress Cup tournament. In addition, a table tennis tournament was held for the participants of the EEF Junior Forum. The Roscongress Foundation, the Russian Table Tennis Federation and RC-Sport signed a cooperation agreement at EEF 2022.

More than 70 athletes from the Primorsky Region took part in the equestrian tournament ‘Roscongress Cup. Trainers Cup’. The traditional platu-25 class sailing regatta for the EEF 2022 Cup once again graced the waters of the Amur Bay.

Also, under the auspices of the EEF 2022, the Far Eastern Federal District’s first skateboarding championship in the Olympic street discipline was held. The competition was hosted by the new skate park, which opened as part of the Eastern Economic Forum.
