The Radio Monte Carlo Regatta was
held near Moscow as the first event in the sports programme of the 7th Eastern
Economic Forum (Vladivostok, 5–8 September). Twenty crews made up of
representatives from the business, creative, tourism, sports, and other
industries went under sail. The event, which combined sport, music, and a
business programme, was organized by the Russian Media Group with the support
of RC-Sport, the Roscongress Foundation’s sports platform.
The special features of the Far
East, as well as its potential and development were the main theme of the
session “Russian Media Group: Creative & Business. Emotional targeting:
noble classics and daring digital”, held after the Regatta.
Georgy Bryusov, CEO of the Centre
for Athletic Training of Russian National Teams, said that the Russian Far East
received more than 1,000 athletes and coaches during the final stage of
preparations for the Tokyo Olympics, with more than half of them training at
the FEFU campus on Russky Island. “Sixteen of the 20 gold medals in Tokyo 2020
were won by athletes who trained in the Far East. It was preceded by
well-coordinated efforts of the Ministry of Sport and regional heads to upgrade
the infrastructure. The EEF sports programme shaped by the Roscongress
Foundation helped develop the necessary organizational expertise in the region.
Sport was one of the pioneers in the Far East in terms of territorial development.
Now the sports federations are returning to EEF 2022 with new international
tournaments. At the same time, a substantive conversation about the development
of sports in the Far East in the light of the new challenges will take place in
the Forum business programme and at the pavilion of the Ministry of Sport at
the ‘Far East Street’ exhibition,” said Georgy Bryusov.
Valery Fedorov, Director General of
VCIOM, said that the Yakutsk branch had helped the sociological research in the
Far Eastern Federal District switch to 24/7. “Why Yakutsk? Because the
North-Eastern Federal University is located there, as well as many well-known
IT companies. Just 10–12 years ago, our people associated the Far East with
‘degradation, ruin, exodus...’. Now it is ‘development, the future,
infrastructure, nature, and beauty’,” Valery Fedorov emphasized the changes in
public opinion.
Elvira Nurgalieva, First Deputy
General Director of the Far East Development Corporation, spoke about the
educational prospects that the Far East offers to young people, as well as the
cultural and tourism potential of the region. “A flywheel economy has been
launched in the Far East, tax incentives, appropriate legislation, and the
opportunity to develop new businesses – more than a hundred thousand jobs have
been created,” said Elvira Nurgalieva, First Deputy General Director of the Far
East Development Corporation.
The session was moderated by Dmitry
Mednikov, Managing Director of the Russian Media Group. Participants in the
discussion included popular singer Dmitry Malikov; Director of Development and
Strategic Partnerships of The Carlton, Moscow Elena Veselova; Advisor to the
Deputy Minister of Economic Development Olga Terno; and other experts. The
event ended with a concert of pop stars.
