The Krasnoyarsk Territory extends from the shores of the Arctic Ocean to the mountains of Southern Siberia; it is located mainly within Eastern Siberia, in the basin of the Yenisei River. It borders: in the south with the Republic of Tyva, in the southwest-with the Kemerovo Region, in the west — with the Republic of Khakassia, Kemerovo, Tomsk regions, Khanty-Mansi and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Districts, in the west and northwest — with the Tyumen Region, in the east-with the Irkutsk region.

The region ranks first in Russia in terms of wood reserves, second in terms of hydropower resources, and third in terms of mineral fuel reserves (mainly brown coal, oil reserves have been discovered). Deposits of ores of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, gold, natural stone, non-metallic building materials.
The agriculture of the region is dominated by the production of grain, potatoes and vegetables; animal husbandry of the meat and dairy direction, sheep breeding, poultry farming, beekeeping and animal husbandry are developed.

The dominant types of economic activities of the region are:

  • non-ferrous metals,
  • the engineering and Metalworking,
  • mining (coal mining, iron ore, non-ferrous and rare metals, gold, graphite, Icelandic),
  • chemical (production of chemical fibers, synthetic rubber, tyres, medical supplies, rubber products),
  • forestry and timber processing
  • light and food industries.
