Представители Российской Федерации рассказали о целях и перспективах в Арктическом регионе

The ‘Arctic Frontiers’ conference took place in Tromsø, Norway on 2630 January. The discussions held at plenary meetings and sessions focused on the current situation in the Arctic, scientific developments, innovative technologies, education, business projects as well as the establishment of sustainable Arctic communities. One of the conference’s top goals was to establish contacts between young scientists, professionals, and students in order to exchange experience and identify new prospects for the region’s development. Representatives of the Russian Federation spoke about principle ideas and innovative projects in the Arctic.

The conference has brought together experts and speakers to discuss the main issues on the international Arctic agenda, include the aforementioned Special Ambassador for International Cooperation in the Arctic Nikolay Korchunov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway Ine Marie Eriksen Søreide, Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade of Finland Ville Skinnari, Minister of Higher Education and Research of Sweden Matilda Ernkrans, Director of the International Arctic Forum Oksana Poletimova as well as other political figures, analysts, scientists, and representatives of public organizations and businessmen.

«The Barents/Euro-Arctic region can rightfully be called the most economically and technologically developed part of the Arctic, and one of the main drivers of its development are the northern territories of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia, and the entire Arctic as a whole. It’s an example of how countries take and show responsibility for the development of a shared region. <...> A separate session on regional cooperation is a clear example of the growing trend towards the growing role that the regions and regional formats play in the socioeconomic development of the respective territories,» said Nikolay Korchunov, Special Ambassador for International Cooperation in the Arctic.

The event presented the project of a year-round fully self-sufficient international arctic station that will use renewable energy sources and hydrogen energy. This is Russia’s first project that was submitted to the Arctic Council Sustainable Development Working Group. The international arctic station will be put into operation in the spring of 2022 and will become a platform for international cooperation among engineers, researchers, scientists, as well as science-oriented young people that develop technologies for living and working in the Arctic.

For reference: The International Arctic Forum will be held in St. Petersburg in 2021. The event will serve as a key platform for discussing pressing issues concerning the socioeconomic development of the Arctic territories and the formulation of different multilateral mechanisms for jointly tapping into and effectively developing the region’s powerful resource potential. The Forum will be organized by the Roscongress Foundation.
