The fourth international forum
‘Russia and Iberoamerica in the Global World: History and Modernity’ will take
place on 1–3 October 2019 in St. Petersburg.
The Forum is the largest event in Russia
involving experts on Latin America, Spain, and Portugal and one of the most
representative in the world. The meetings at the Forum will focus on
socio-political and economic processes in Latin America, its history and culture,
prospects for Russian-Latin American cooperation, and the involvement of
countries of the region in international relations.
The Forum is being organized by St.
Petersburg State University, the Institute of Latin America of the Russian
Academy of Sciences, Bering-Bellingshausen Institute for the Americas
(Montevideo, Uruguay), and the Roscongress Foundation. The event is being
supported by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Santander Bank, the
Regional Coordinator of Economic and Social Research (CRIES), the Latin
American Council for Social Sciences (CLACSO), the Mexican Political Science Association
(AMECIP), and Icesi University, Colombia.

platform used to determine Latin America’s development prospects for a multipolar
world. We are seeing steady growth in Latin American representatives’ interest
in the Foundation’s projects as well as the extent of their participation in
our activities. As a co-organizer of the Forum, the Roscongress Foundation plays
an important role by strengthening international cooperation in science and
business”, Roscongress Foundation CEO and Chairman of the Board Alexander
Stuglev said.
Prominent politicians,
scientists, and journalists always take part in the Forum, which makes it a
particularly important event as a discussion platform on Iberoamerican issues.

of the UN General Assembly (2018–2019); Dr. Manuel Antonio Garreton from the
University of Chile; Victor Jeifets, Professor of the Russian Academy of
Sciences and Director of the Centre for Ibero-American Studies at Saint
Petersburg State University; Andres Serbin, Director of the Regional Coordinator of Economic and
Social Research (Argentina); Lazar Jeifets,
Professor at the Department of American Studies at Saint Petersburg State
University, Doctor of History, and Chairman of the Forum Organizing Committee; Vladimir
Davydov, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Academic Supervisor of the Institute

fellow at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, and many others.
The Forum will feature more than
seventy symposia on various topics, main sessions, and roundtables,
presentations of books by Russian and foreign authors, open lectures by
diplomats and experts as well as thematic exhibitions. On the eve of the
official opening of the Forum, there will be an official unveiling ceremony for
a monument to the founder of Uruguay, General Jose Gervasio Artigas (his bust
was donated to Saint Petersburg State University by the Senate of Uruguay) and
a photo exhibition devoted to the history of the World Cup that took place in
Uruguay (timed to the joint bid of Argentina, Chile, and Paraguay to host the
2030 World Cup). The Forum will also include a recap of a competition of young
researchers on Iberoamerica.
